VICE GRIP RACK

john niolon

I like vice grips and use a lot of them fabricating stuff... and holding other stuff...and occasionally hammering something into alignment with them (don't do that).  I usually keep them clamped under the edge of my welding table but that limits access to the shelf.  So in my quest to clean up the shop and do away with some clutter and bad ideas... I needed a rack that was handy but out of the way.

My fab/welding table is in the middle of the shop under a 4 bulb flourescent fixture (old eyes)  My rack is going to be attached to the ceiling above that area.

I used a piece of 1" x 2" rectangular tubing and put a 3/8" slit in the center along the length of the material (sorry no pic) the 3/8" is wide enough to let the bolt on the vice grips slip thru, but not the knurled nut...   two strap hangers to get to the right height... and there you go.  I had two long throat clamps that would have been head bangers... so they have their own little rack... 1" angle iron screwed to the ceiling..
